TRREE contribution to the ECOWAS Workshop on Strengthening Ethical and Regulatory Systems for Research during Epidemics
Dear users,
We are pleased to share that Prof. Dominique Sprumont and Dr. Abdoulaye Koné participated in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Workshop on Strengthening Ethical and Regulatory Systems for Research during Epidemics, held in Lomé, Republic of Togo, from 3 to 6 June 2026.
During the workshop, they delivered presentations covering several topics of direct relevance to research ethics and clinical research governance, including:
- Key changes introduced by the transition from ICH-GCP R2 to R3 and their benefits for research, with particular attention to fundamental principles and the responsibilities of investigators, sponsors, and ethics committees
- Practical application of research ethics and health research regulation within ECOWAS contexts
- Presentation of the TRREE online training modules and regulatory framework resources available through the platform
- Reflections on how ethical and regulatory systems may be further adapted to the realities and needs of ECOWAS Member States.
The workshop brought together stakeholders, including chairs of National Research Ethics Committees and Heads of Drug Authorities, committed to strengthening preparedness for epidemic-related research and promoting robust ethical and regulatory systems throughout the ECOWAS Member States’ region.
We thank the organisers and participants for the fruitful exchanges and their continued commitment to ethical and responsible health research.
