Modules & Progress

4. How do I access the GCP content (Module 4)?

Successful completion of Modules 1, 2, and 3 (score above 70%) is required before accessing Module 4 GCP (R2 or R3).

Please note that the Modules 1, 2, and 3 were updated in December 2023. As a result, participants who completed these prerequisites prior to that date are kindly requested to complete the updated versions in order to access the GCP content.

5. How long do I have access to the modules after registration?

Participants may access their TRREE modules and training records through their account at any time. We nevertheless encourage users to download and save copies of their certificates for their personal records.

6. Can I complete the modules at my own pace?

Yes. TRREE modules are designed as self-paced online training courses, allowing participants to complete them according to their own schedule.

7. Are the TRREE modules available free of charge?

Access to the training modules is free of charge. Please note, however, that certain certificates such as Module 4 GCP certificate (both R2 and R3) as well as the Swiss Regulatory Framework (RF) require payment for participants coming from the wealthiest countries according to the World Bank.

8. What is the minimum score required to complete a module?

A minimum score of 70% is required to successfully complete a module and obtain the corresponding certificate of completion

9. I completed the prerequisites (Modules 1, 2, and 3) but I still cannot access the GCP content. What should I do?

Please note that it may take a few minutes for our system to update your progression and unlock the GCP material.

If access is still unavailable after one hour, please contact our support team, who will be happy to assist you.

10. I failed my first attempt at a module. Can I retake it?

Yes, modules may be retaken at any time, and the highest score achieved will be retained in the system.

11. I completed a module, but my progress does not seem to be saved. What happened?

Your progress is saved automatically as you go through each activity. You are free to leave your training at any time. However, when you come back to a module, make sure to answer "YES" when asked if you want to continue where you had left off, otherwise you will need to start over.

Make sure you reach the absolute end of the module — you must navigate through every page all the way to the final screen for your completion to be recorded and your certificate to be generated.

Leaving a module before reaching its very last page, even if most of the content was viewed, will prevent grading from being triggered (and will not release your certificate).

12. Can I complete modules on a mobile device or tablet?

Yes, the TRREE platform is accessible from any modern web browser on desktop, tablet, or smartphone (although not recommended). For the best experience, we recommend using an up-to-date browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. Some features may work better on a larger screen.

13. Which GCP version should I take — Module 4R2 (ICH-GCP R2) or Module 4R3 (ICH-GCP R3)?

In January 2025, the ICH-GCP Revision 3 (R3) guidelines were adopted to integrate the lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and the latest development in research ethics and regulation.

The revised ICH-GCP R3 guideline is already in force in different regions and countries including the European Union, Canada, China, United Kingdom, and Switzerland…. Other countries may continue to apply the R2 version during a transitional implementation period.

Participants/Users are therefore strongly advised to verify which version (R2 or R3) is currently applicable in their country before completing TRREE Modules 4R2 (ICH-GCP R2) or 4R3 (ICH-GCP R3).

Please also note that access to Module 4R3 is facilitated for those who have successfully completed Module 1, 2, and 3 following the December 2023 revision.

14. I already completed a GCP training elsewhere. Is there an equivalence with TRREE certificates?

To access TRREE Module 4 (GCP R2 or R3), participants are required to successfully complete TRREE Modules 1, 2, and 3 (score above 70%). TRREE does not offer a formal equivalence or exemption process. In addition, the platform does not technically support the granting of individual exemptions.

As a small, non-profit academic initiative operating with limited resources, TRREE's mission is to provide open-access training in research ethics and regulation through a multilingual and multicultural approach. Given the large number of participants using the platform across a wide range of countries and regulatory contexts, implementing and administering an individual equivalence assessment process would not be feasible.

We appreciate your understanding and hope that the prerequisite modules will also provide a useful introduction to TRREE's approach and content.

15. Questions presented in clusters

Somes questions in the GCP-R3 module are presented as smalls subgroups of 2-3 questions (or clusters). When entering a cluster, the system will present you with a random question in the cluster. If you answer correctly, you will not be shown the other questions in the cluster and you will move on to the next content page. If you provide a wrong answer, you will be immediately presented with another random question in the cluster (no retries).

Questions in clusters are marked wit a « * ».

Therefore, it is possible that you do not see all 37 questions in the GCP-R3 module and this is perfectly normal. Your grade will be calculated only on the number of correct answers on the questions shown (minimal is 31).

Certificates & Payment

16. Where can I get my certificates of completion?

TRREE certificates (PDF format) are available for download on the introduction page of each module once the corresponding module has been successfully completed (score above 70%).

Please note that certificates for Nigerian participants are issued directly by our Nigerian partner institution and will therefore be sent by email.

17. Do TRREE certificates have an expiry date?

TRREE certificates do not currently include a formal expiration date, as their validity may depend on the evolution of applicable international and local regulations, which can vary over time.

However, some employers, sponsors or institutions may request that their investigators renew their GCP training periodically (for example, every two to three years). In such cases, the downloadable PDF certificate will reflect the date of the most recent successful completion.

Participants/Users who completed the modules prior to the December 2023 revision are encouraged to complete the updated modules 1,2, and 3 before accessing or retaking the GCP module:

https://elearning.trree.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=64 .

Previous GCP certificates remain accessible. Please note, however, that the certificate date will be updated following a new successful completion of the GCP module t (score above 70%).

As a reminder, successful completion of Modules 1,2, and 3 (with a score above 70%) is required before beginning Module 4 (GCP). While access to all modules is free of charge, the certificate for Module 4 GCP (R2 & R3) is available for a fee of 58 CHF for participants coming from the wealthiest countries according to the World Bank.

18. How much does the training cost?

All the training on TRREE is free. However, for participants from high-income economies (as identified in the 2016 World Bank's list), there is a 58 CHF charge to download the certificates for the GCP modules and/or the Swiss Regulatory Framework.

Participants doing the GCP module (R2 or R3) -AND- the Swiss module don't need to pay twice. One payment covers both.

19. How can I change my name on my certificates?

For security and verification purposes, name changes cannot be made directly through the platform. If you would like to request a correction or update, please contact our support team by email. Supporting identification documents (ID) may be requested to process the change.

20. My certificates appear to be password protected. What should I do?

TRREE certificates do not require a password to be opened, viewed, printed or shared.

If you encounter difficulties accessing your certi ficate, we recommend first downloading the PDF file (certificate) to your computer and opening it using Adobe Acrobat Reader or another compatible PDF reading software.

If the issue persists, please contact our support team, who will be happy to assist you in accessing your certificates.

21. I don't have a PayPal account. How can I pay for my certificates?

A PayPal account is not required to make a payment via PayPal using a credit card. If you would prefer to pay by bank transfer, please contact our support team to obtain the relevant banking details.
