Infolettre TRREE Newsletter - 2016/02

Dear TRREE participants,

Since its launch in 2009, TRREE has attracted more than 17,000 participants from 155 countries. We have delivered more than 37,000 certificates for the completion of the 6 available modules in 6 different languages (English, French, Portuguese, German, Polish, and Chinese). This puts TRREE in the top 1% of all Moodle registered sites in the number of users. As a member of the TRREE community, we want to thank you warmly for contributing to this success that, we hope, has improved the protection of research participants around the world.

To maintain its commitment to provide free and open-access to a high quality self-eLearning program on research ethics and regulation, TRREE has evolved over the years, adding new modules, new languages and new functions to our training program. 2015 was marked by several improvements that we are happy to share with you.

First, TRREE adapted itself to the latest technical developments. TRREE is running with the most recent version of Moodle and has a new responsive design. This means that you can follow the training program on any type of smartphone or tablet, facilitating access to a broader public. For busy professionals or students, it is now possible to study the basics of research ethics and GCP not only at any time but also almost anywhere.

Second, we have upgraded and updated the program. Most importantly, the general bibliography containing direct access to the main reference documents has been completely revised. We have re-organized the structure of this section to facilitate navigation and expanded the number of documents in all the languages in which they are available. We have also upgraded and updated the Swiss national supplement to include the latest version of the Swiss Human Research Act. This allowed us to renew our recognition by the Swiss Association of Research Ethics Committees (www.swissethics.ch) as valid GCP training for investigators.

Third, a new structure of TRREE has opened the door for the development of independent sites in other languages. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our partners from Taiwan, especially Prof. Chien Te Fan from National Tsing Hua University Bioethics and Law Center, who developed an independent site in Chinese: http://chinese.trree.org. We would like also to thank our partners from Hong Kong, Henry Yau and Creany Wong from The University of Hong Kong Clinical Trials Centre (www.hkuctc.com), for their precious help in developing this new website.

Fourth, TRREE is now present on Facebook to encourage and facilitate exchanges with and among our participants and beyond. The TRREE Facebook page is an initiative of several active supporters from around the world. You are welcome to join the movement and discover more about the latest news on research ethics around the world.

Last but not least, TRREE is gaining recognition by national and international authorities and professional associations, such as the World Medical Association. There are also a growing number of references in the scientific literature identifying TRREE as an important training provider in the field of research ethics and GCP around the world. This is an acknowledgement of what TRREE has achieved and an encouragement for us to continue.

For 2016, keep an eye on TRREE. You can expect more changes:

  • A Brazilian version of the modules 1, 2.1 and 3.1 will be available in the coming months together with first national supplement from Latin America, thanks to our Brazilian partners.
  • A specific module on public health research ethics will be developed with the support of the Swiss School of Public Health
  • Projects to develop TRREE in other languages will be encouraged.

If you have any suggestions or want to be part of the team, please do not hesitate to contact us on Facebook or by email!

Thank you again for your trust and support and for spreading the word to your colleagues and friends.

The TRREE Team
